Biography:

Hi, I’m Melicia, co-founder and Registered Psychotherapist here at Resiliency House Counseling. As our name suggests, we aim to assist you on your journey to a more wholesome, joyful and resilient version of yourself.

As a therapist, my practice is centred around your wellbeing, ensuring that there is an environment of emotional safety, where you can feel seen, heard, validated and accepted. With more than a decade of clinical experience, you can trust that you will be treated with the use of the most effective, evidence-based therapeutic approaches. As a child and family therapist, my expertise includes areas such as depression, mood and anxiety disorders, neurodevelopment, lifespan transitions, relational trauma, parenting challenges, behavioural intervention, emotional regulation and inter-family dynamics. At the forefront of each intervention is the belief that everyone has inherent strengths that can be utilized for their benefit. Other interventions frequently used include, Child and Infant Mental Health interventions such as: Triple P-Positive Parenting (Behavioural-based approach), Zones of Regulation (Emotional regulation intervention), and Circle of Security (Attachment-based approach). I am also certified in Cognitive-Behaviour Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (components), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and Trauma Focused Interventions.

As an immigrant and a Caribbean native, I have always been passionate about cultures. Which is why cultural diversity and inclusivity are important to me. My practice is tailored to understanding the unique nuances of the immigrant experience, as this can often impact a client’s level of acclimatization and ultimately their mental and emotional health. My hope is that clients know that they are in a safe space created specifically for them.

Change is challenging, and I would like to help you make strides on your journey to healing.

Perinatal and Family Care:

Working with families of diverse backgrounds includes focusing on the mental and emotional needs of persons who are in the process or has already experienced pregnancy and parenting. As a therapist I provide psychoeducation around the physiological and emotional changes that occurs throughout this process. As well as offer clients the opportunity to unpack and explore the emotions, thoughts and feelings that often accompany such a life altering process.

With years of experience working with parents, and children, I am competent in perinatal and postnatal therapy.
